Located in the south-east of Europe, from the Danube plain to the Balkan peninsula between the Balkan massif, Northern Thrace, the Rhodope massif and the Black Sea, Bulgaria extends over the ancient lands of the mysterious civilization of the Thracians.
This civilization, one of the oldest in the world, has left a unique and rare legacy with the discovery of numerous archaeological sites, tombs and traditional objects (copper tools, ritual objects, pottery) as well as the oldest gold jewelry ever discovered.
You will be able to admire these exceptional treasures thanks to the very important collections of the numerous historical, archaeological and ethnographic museums in the country which exhibit them to the general public.
Bulgaria is a country that is both dynamic and multicultural, rapidly expanding and endowed with a rich historical and cultural heritage, hotels, restaurants and cultural or sporting activities at a price unbeatable in Europe.
The country is organized into 28 regions or oblasts named after the city which is its capital.
The economic and political stability of modern Bulgaria is indisputable and the national currency the Bulgarian Lev is linked to the Euro at the rate of 1.95583 per euro.
The main cities to visit in Bulgaria are:
Sofia, Plovdiv, Pazardjik, Varna, Blagoevgrad, Bansko, Vratsa, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Haskovo, Rousse, Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sozopol, Ahtopol and many more.
You can easily reach your destination city thanks to the numerous airports and transport (bus and train) available in the country or easily book a rental car.
Despite its small size, Bulgaria also has a generous and diverse nature with no less than 16 mountains with their own characteristics, 12 national parks, 380 km of beaches bathing in the Black Sea, 550 natural water sources with mineral assets, curative or thermal, around 2000 caves or grottoes, and more than a quarter of the country is covered in forests.
Added to this is a flora of 3,000 species, a fauna of no less than 13,000 species or subspecies, without forgetting species that are endangered in other European countries such as the wolf or the bear.
You will be seduced by the beauty and diversity of the ecological heritage and landscapes that Bulgaria offers and by the extent of the possibilities and activities on offer – winter sports, outdoors, ecological trails, caves and waterfalls, sea and well-being…
In particular by exploring the sublime Pirin National Park, listed since 1983 on the UNESCO World Heritage list, where you can admire the protected flora and fauna of the most beautiful nature reserve in the country.
During your trip, you will also discover the exceptional richness of Bulgarian heritage with the presence of numerous historic churches such as the emblematic Alexander Nevsky Cathedral located in the capital of Sofia.
But also monasteries including the most famous added to the UNESCO heritage, the Rila Monastery, which you can visit and in some cases even stay there for a pious and calm retreat in the heart of the Rila Mountain.
And also remember to take advantage of the many art galleries, museums and events dedicated to the country's cultural and historical heritage.
If you aspire to a more nocturnal and less pious life, you can go to the numerous cafes and restaurants specializing in Bulgarian cuisine, or even to one of the country's many nightclubs.
But you can also enjoy the azure water of the Black Sea and all the sea and well-being activities, notably by going to the sublime “Côte du Soleil” along the maritime coast.
